Welcome to "Nashvilla" ... the most beautiful view in Nashville!!

Shannon Fontaine Photography
The moment visitors approach the front door via the secluded entrance bridge, and can see completely through the house directly to downtown Nashville, eight miles away, they often stop in their tracks, slack-jawed. They instantly realize they are someplace very special.

Located at nearly one thousand feet of elevation and situated with a commanding view of the Nashville metroplex, this immaculate rustic-contemporary mountaintop jewel was the last home designed and built by renowned Nashville master architect Robert Anderson.

The home is an architectural tour-de-force. Positioned onto a climbing ridge, seemingly planted into its prestigeous two acre site, Anderson nestled the residence protectively into the trees, giving the home total visibility yet complete privacy. The open plan features floor to ceiling windows, vaulted spaces, a three-level floating staircase. Virtually every room is provided with unsurpassed views of the downtown skyline.

Shannon Fontaine Photography
The home is designed for comfortable and easy entertaining; free-flowing public spaces, huge professional kitchen with fireplace, home theater, and adorned with massive outdoor decks and patio. Grand, yet clean and unpretentious.

Private quarters consist of four spacious king-sized bedroom suites, each with its own private bath. High-speed WiFi and hard-wired, wall-mounted 'smart' flatscreen televisions. Three of the bedrooms have their own private outdoor decks.

Four fireplaces. Pecan hardwood flooring. Whole-house audio, including exterior sound.

If you are looking for a home in a great location, or are looking for a unique and inspiring place to live, this is it.

Robert Anderson, Master Architect

Robert M. Anderson, Jr. grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, attended nearby Hillsboro High School, and became a local icon, rendering architectural masterpieces, made of glass and stone, that line the hilltops and ridges surrounding the city.

For decades, his achievements in modern and contemporary design often went overlooked by those who preferred to live in traditional homes.

But for those special few, who understand his work and appreciate a unique and more restrained aesthetic, there is no substitute for a Robert Anderson-designed home.

Over the years, Anderson homes have begun to establish a near cult-following, particularly among young sophisticates, the artistic, and fans of great architecture. His work has been featured recently in several regional and national publications, and is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

Here are a few of those publications:

Robert Anderson retired soon after completing this house, and he passed away in 2014. His legacy lives on in the landmark homes he designed throughout central Tennessee.

Unique History

In 1987, Davidson County General Sessions Court Judge, John Brown, and his wife Anne, were looking for property near Travelers Ridge Drive on which to build a house and were considering purchasing acreage on a private drive at the top of the hill. Their friend, architect Robert Anderson, tried to convince them to build on a lot slightly down the ridge, because it would provide a far better view of the city. The location, with the crest of the Overton Hills slightly to its right, and Shy's Hill to its left, 'perfectly framed' the view of metropolitan Nashville. After several months of convincing, including the rental of a hydraulic lift to simulate the view from the location, the Browns purchased the lot on which the house now sits.

The next ten years were spent thinking about what kind of house to build.

The Browns had previously lived in two other Anderson-designed homes. For the next ten years, architect and clients worked together to design a house, and Anderson eventually created this concept sketch, drawn in freehand.

Over time, many adjustments were made to the original plan. An enclosed staircase was opened up, balconies were added (to help facilitate with window cleaning), more ceilings vaulted, and a second laundry room was added.

Construction began in late 1997, with major excavation work. Massive concrete foundations were poured, anchoring the house to the bedrock. Jim Bennett of Bennett Construction Company, Inc. worked with Anderson to build the complex structure, and the architect visited the project frequently.

Architect Robert Anderson and builder Jim Bennett,
on site during construction at 1150 Travelers Ridge Drive.

By late 1999, the house was nearly completed and was issued a Certificate of Occupancy, although finish-work and interior details stretched throughout 2000.

The Browns enjoyed living and entertaining in the house. Their good friend, singer Willie Nelson, frequently visited the residence, where they regularly threw barbecues and other get-togethers for their mutual friends. Several members of Willie's band were married by Judge Brown in the living room of the house (once with more than two hundred people attending).

In 2007, after retiring from the court, Judge Brown accepted an appointment to serve for a year in Eur-Asia as a legal expert in the Republic of Georgia. During this absence, the Browns rented their house to musician Robert Plant, who lived in the residence between February 2007 and October 2007, while he was in Nashville recording the Grammy-winning album Raising Sand with Alison Krauss.

The Browns sold their house in 2012 to its current owners, who took it upon themselves to fine-tune and update it, while preserving the architectural integrity of the original work. They hired architect Tom Bauer of Bauer Askew Architecture to help them with a few modifications and renovations. Most of this effort was concentrated on the upper level, adding a guest room, bath, and reconfiguring the master suite.
